These Healthy Happy Hour Picks Will Keep Your 2018 Goals On Track

Chances are one of your #newyearsresolutions was to get healthy.

Honestly, we could all use a little improvement in our health.

However, being healthy doesn’t mean having to give up everything you love. In fact, the best way to find success in your 2018 health goals is to modify, not exclude.

Thankfully, that concept definitely applies to happy hour.

Staying on track with your health goals does NOT mean that you have to give up happy hour!

You just need to tweak it a bit.

Here are our top happy hour drinks and eats for this new healthy season.

Vitality Vodka Lemonade

When you pull out your juicer for a cocktail, you know it’s gonna be good.

What you need:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 head romaine lettuce
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 small piece fresh ginger
  • 2 green apples
  • Vodka, to taste

What to do:

Simply put all the vegetables and fruits into your juicer, then add the vodka to taste.

And, voila! You’re set. Guilt-free drinking.

Low-Cal Mojito

What’s not to love about a mojito? Well, the calories.

Some of them pack a whopping 250 calories, but this one we’ve found will only cost you 150 calories.

What you need:

  • 6 lime wedges
  • 1 1/2 T. lime juice
  • 2 T fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. warmed honey
  • 2 oz rum
  • 4 oz club soda

What to do:

  1. Fill a martini shaker with 1 cup of ice.
  2. Add the lime wedges, the lime juice, and the mint leaves.
  3. Muddle the lime and mint until fragrant.
  4. In a separate glass, mix the warmed honey, rum, and club soda.
  5. Stir until the honey dissolves.
  6. Add this mixture to the muddled one, and stir until it’s chilled.
  7. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with mint and lime.

Skinny Grapefruit Margarita

Few things are more refreshing than a nice, cold margarita. Unfortunately, margs don’t exactly fit into our idea of healthy for the new year.

Luckily, we’ve found a hack to make these indulgent drinks less indulgent, so you can sip on your marg guilt-free!

What you need:

  • 1 oz Skinny Triple Sec
  • 1 oz gold tequila
  • Juice of half a grapefruit
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water

What to do:

Simply combine all the ingredients, and serve them over ice.

What fun is happy hour without some fab snacks to go along with it?

Greek-amole

This more smooth version of guacamole provides a great new way to mix up your guac + chips habit of last year.

What you need:

  • 4 avocados
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 chile (ex: jalapeno), minced
  • Juice 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 T Greek yogurt
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced

What to do:

  1. Mash the flesh of avocados until smooth
  2. Add cilantro, chile, lemon juice, and salt and pepper
  3. Mix in yogurt and combine with minced garlic
  4. Serve with chips!

Spinach Balls

We are on board with anything cheesy. Especially when that cheese comes packed with spinach and other healthy ingredients.

What you need:

  • 6 cups fresh spinach leaves
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (ex: cilantro)
  • 1 cup Gluten Freek Panko Crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt

What to do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. Place trimmed and washed spinach leave in large mixing bowl and pour boiling water over
  3. Cover and set aside for 3 minutes
  4. Rinse the spinach with cold tap water and squeeze out all remaining water
  5. Chop the spinach finely and transfer into a mixing bowl
  6. Add the eggs, cheese, herbs, and Panko crumbs
  7. Combine with a spoon until it makes a batter that you can use to form balls (if the mixture it too moist, add more Panko crumbs)
  8. Place balls on a non-stick cooking sheet covered with baking paper
  9. Bake at 350 F for 15-20 minutes
